Cain and Abel
Cain and Abel
Two brothers. One altar. Abel’s smoke rises — his was accepted. Cain’s face fell. He lifts his hand against his brother. And there, in the field, Abel falls. The first blood the earth ever drank.
“And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”
The Flood and the Ark
The Flood and the Ark
The waters rose. They climbed the rocks — there was no higher ground. Hands reach up. The door is shut. A whole world beneath the flood. And above it all — the ark is lifted up. Judgment below. Mercy afloat.
“And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.”
David and Goliath
David and Goliath
A giant in armour. A whole army afraid. Goliath looks down. A shepherd boy. No armour. Only a sling — and five smooth stones. He came not with a sword, but in the name of the LORD.
“Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts.”
The Return of the Prodigal Son
The Return of the Prodigal Son
He came home in rags. Ashamed — and still a great way off. But the father saw him. And he ran. Arms wide open — no questions asked. This my son was dead, and is alive again.
“But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.”
The Sacrifice of Isaac
The Sacrifice of Isaac
A father climbs the mountain. His eyes lift — to heaven. In his hand, the knife. On the wood — his only son. God will provide himself a lamb.
“And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering.”
The Lamentation of Christ
The Lamentation of Christ
It is finished. They laid him down on the cold linen. His mother, in blue — her hand on his side. The others hold her up. At her feet, the crown of thorns. Sorrow before the third day.
“And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb.”
Lowered Through the Roof
Lowered Through the Roof
The house was full — no way in. So they climbed onto the roof. And tore it open to the sky. Down came the mat, on four ropes. Jesus saw their faith. Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.
“And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was... and they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.”
Thy Sins Be Forgiven
Thy Sins Be Forgiven
A house packed wall to wall. Then light breaks through the torn roof. A man is lowered on ropes. Jesus lifts his hand. The crowd reaches in — silenced. Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
“When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.”
That’s the collection.
